Hard Drives?

Hey i got a could questions about harddrives.

1. Whats the difference between SATA and IDE?
2. Which one is better a SATA or IDE?
3. I've noticed that most of the hard drives on newegg.com are OEM drive only. Is it okay to buy a drive like that or is it better to purchase a retail drive?

If someone could help me out with these questions it would be greatly apreciated.

Also I've noticed that the OEM drives have a 3 year warranty while the retail has only 1 year

You should buy the SATA drives if you motherboard supports SATA devises. OEM comes from the orginal manufacturer and therefore carries a longer warranty. (I think)

The cas latency is different on those two? Is one better than the other?

SATA is newer technologie and faster than IDE drives. SATA uses different cables and your mobo needs to support it like Nikkon said. SATA reaches speeds up to 150Mbps.

IDE runs at 133Mbps...SATA runs at 150Mbps.

SATA is faster, and has thiner cables.

get the SATA if you can.

OEM means just the HDD and nothing else...i like to buy retail just because i like to have the box and manuals and all of that good stuff.

IDE comes in ATA33/66/100/133, sata is ATA150. The numbers stands for megabytes per second. higher means faster potential throughput

SATA is also some times called sierel ATA so don't get the two mixed up...they are both the same.
