I'm noticing more and more now my rig just freezing up for no apparent reason whatsoever.. I put everything back to stock speeds and I still have the problem occuring. It could be on the desktop with nothing running, could be in a game or while utorrent's open, any scenario really.. and it's the same type of freeze.. anything on screen is frozen, including the mouse pointer.. if any sound is playing, it stutters indefinitley, and at a very quick pace..

I know this is a vague and rather common issue, I'm not looking for straight answers, but I'm a bit stumped as to how i would go about checking this out?

I just made a clean install of XP sp3 just a couple of weeks ago, and it's been running rather lean and clean, except for the freezes of course

Check your temps on your GPU and CPU. If it is truely random it could just be overheating (a fan possibly not turning on or revolving fast enough). If it always happens at the same junction let us know when that is.

Currently Atitool's reporting GPU temp @ 40, and 'Temperature of temp. chip' @ 34, idle

I know my cpu temps seem weird. core 0 seems to jump a little and is generally higher, but when i look at coretemp in real time, core 0 is also the one that usually gets the brunt of the work while on load

anyway, something's telling me that utorrent might actually be the culprit here because I've googled it up and there seems to be an issue with computers freezing with utorrent depending on configuration.. i've followed a few of those guidelines and now we'll wait and see..

Update to the latest drivers for: video card and chipset. Second open your case up and point a fan directly to it, but not too close. This will at least tell you if it is a heating issue.

drivers are up-to-date

So I've put this issue off for a week, i just keep doing a manual reboot (holding down power) whenever it freezes.. it's still annoying the heck out of me, I even decided to underclock/volt and it still eventually froze, either happens whens' something running or nothing at all..

i have some temp logs earlier in this thread if any of you guys wanna take a look

i have PeerGuardian and uTorrent usually running when nothing else's running at all, but i remember it freezing with absolutely nothing running either..

would faulty memory be a possibility for this kind of freeze?
