Nehalem is a huge change to x86. The changes include:
-Integrated memory controller, supports up to six channel DDR3
-QPI (similar to hypertransport, it replaces fsb)
-Simultaneous multihtreading essentially doubles the numbers of threads per core (ie a quad core has 8 threads, as opposed to 4 threads in a Yorkfield or Kentsfield)
-Native monolithic quad and octo core
-It is reported to have 25% better single threaded and 2 times the multithreaded performance per clock of penryn.
-30% low power usage per clock
The 2.66ghz bloom field will run you $284 and have 8 threads for 4 cores with 256k l2 cache (per core) and 8mb shared L3 cache
