DVD drive won't read anything...

Dvd drive is a LITE-ON DVDRW SHM125P6S..computer reads it as LITA-KN DRDRW SHM)125P6S..idk what to do anyone have help im getting by my comp im pretty computer savvy too.. =[

Two things spring to mind... one obvious and one not.

The first is to clean the lens using compressed air or a cleaning disk.

The second is to try a firmware update.

it wont install the firmware since it's read as a different name....and cleaned it everything

Go to the Device Manager and remove the drive. Then Click File>Scan for new hardware. See if it picks up the drive correctly then.

To get to the Device Manager Right click on My Computer select Manage. In that window select Device Manager.

Try Mak's advice, and then verify the model number in Device Manager. Lite-On only makes so many different models...
