Yeah dont listen to thresh and his fanboyism, he can waste his own money if he wants.

Crossfire has many advantages to sli and the 4870 is just a smart choice.

The "standard" performance system that gets recommended here is

some wolfdale or quad

P45 (asus or biostar pic one)

4870

corsiar psu

2 gigs of ram
 
When did Radeon pass Nvidia for graphics cards? I would never EVER buy a Radeon card, but I am curious why everyone is now recommending Radeon cards over Nvidia cards.

Well if you want to get technical the GTX 280 is the most powerful single GPU single card solution on the market. The 4870 gets close (real close) , but then there is the 4870X2 which just plain clobbers the GTX 280.
 
The 4850 and 4870 are the newest offers from ATI and they are alot better than Nvidia's new card's for price/performance and even in some ways just overall performance.
