Should I upgrade?

I've got some cashflow coming in, and was wondering if it'd be worth it to build a new computer.

My current specs for those who can't read a signature are..

Asus M2N-E SLI motherboard

AMD X2 4000+ OCed to 2.4ghz

3 Gigs of OCZ PC6400 dual channel 800mhz ram

Ultra / X-Finity / 500-Watt

XFX 8600 GT

Would it be worth it to completely upgrade, keep in mind if I do not, I will be getting an evga 9800GTX+ still. Maybe I should just upgrade the processor and gpu, and leave the rest?

My main question is this, with that minor upgrade, will I still be able to play the top games on med-high settings that are going to be coming out for the next 1-2 years? Because if so, then I think I can hold off. If I did rebuild, I think I could keep my SATA hdd, and the ram. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't say the next 2 years. Maybe 1 with only a video card upgrade. I would just hold of until Nehalem for a major upgrade. Only around 2 months to go.

nehalem is wayyy out of my price range lol. 200 dollar mobo, 200 dollar cpu, 200 dollar ram, and that's being generous. i'd have too much wasted stuff there, definitely not waiting for that lol.

Well if I were to upgrade, it'd probably be about 1.5 months, and by then I'd have a good 600-700 bucks, but keep in mind I don't think I'd need ram or a HDD. so I'd need a mobo, cpu, gpu, and possibly a psu, though mine might be sufficient.

Very nice. Would that be worth the money though? Or should I just hold off with this 1-2 years, and make a huge upgrade in 1-2 years with considerably more money?

Well, if you still have a month and a half to wait, then some things might have to be changed, but for now, if you wanted a new gpu, motherboard, and cpu, i'd go with this stuff:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500:
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

Corsair 550vx 550watt psu:
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

Asus P5Q-E Motherboard:
Newegg.com - ASUS P5Q-E LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

HIS HD 4850:
Newegg.com - HIS Hightech H485F512P Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Total is $622 before tax/shipping, and would make one excellent build in my opinion.

He's an AMD and nVidia fanbody, I don't think he'd buy any of those... except the PSU..

Looks good although he can save some cash with this.
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

still a strong performer except you aren't paying a premium for the name.
