New Computer Build Questions:

I'm looking to build a new desktop PC and would like to use the 9950BE but I'm having trouble finding a motherboard supporting it out of the box, without bios updates and such. I'm not sure if anyone else is having the same problem but finding a motherboard that supports a 140w cpu is a task in itself.

Are there any boards out there that will work out of the box, preferably even recognizing the 1066 ram immediately.

I plan to run 1 9800gtx+ at first and going SLi so 2x - PCie 2.0 slots are required..

I could run ATi but really prefer Nvidia, and before anyone starts preaching i'm not going intel lol.

If there are any really popular builds using the 9850BE then i would definately be interested.

this is my first complete build so the easier the better, i'm still learning. If anyone has any recommendations please speak up, or if this has been discussed I couldn't find it, so please just post the link. Thanks, Justin.

Edit: 99 dollar one might only support 800 and 1066mhz. not 100%, it's not listed. though I know mine only supports 800mhz which really is plenty

the most expensive is the worst of the 3: "Warning - The AMD QuadCore 9950 will NOT work with this motherboard out of the box. You must call ASUS, get an RMA, and ship the board back since the BIOS chip is surface mount and not socketed. I will provide an update when I get mine back."

the XFX boards don't come with SLi bridges, not sure how much they are i've just seen tons of complaints.

But I can't yet determine if a BIOS update is needed to run the Phenom or not

Doing pretty good so far, the Grand Total is : $896.83 I think I'll have to wait for a monitor til next check, I'm supposed to go the casino on the 6th, I turn 20 on the 5th and that is how i'm buying the computer lol.

My main concern is time, I need the computer to be ordered by the 6th and need it up and running by Warhammer release, my current desktop can't handle it and I'm not going to play it on my laptop all day long lol.

EDIT: that mobo cant run 140watt...

with the rest of your build change these

620hx psu corsair ( or even a cheaper 550w rosewill (amps are more important that watts, look for about 30+A over the combined 12v rails)
gskill 4g ddr800 PQ ( can get ddr1000 set if u want, but dont need too)
xigmatek rifle 120mm cpu cooler (with tx-2 thermal paste)
also can get 4850 since about the same performance (but nvidia has better game support)

NOTE: ASrock is very bad brand! so ive heard from the people who have them.
as for the mobo, its either a 750a or a 560 sli i guess, sli AMD boards arent the most popular. if u were to go a 4850 then Xfire em you would need a full Xfire board, besides x38/48 i dont know of the good ones.

I could be reading it wrong, but the Rosewill PSU i chose is originally $165 with a $50 instant rebate ($114.99) and has the specs:
+3.3V@24A,+5V@30A,+12V1@20A,+12V2@20A,
+12V3@20A, +12V4@20A,-12V@0.5A,+5VSB@3A

Sorry but i'm reading a combined 80A over 4 12v rails...but I'm new to this so correct me if i'm wrong.

the Xigmatec Rifle's don't support AM2+ according to newegg...at least the ones they have.

I am now debating getting the ATi card...its kinda nice it only takes up 1 bay, but i've never liked ATi or Intel. I'll definately go ATi before Intel though lol, after all my laptop is running ATi...

If i do choose ATi does anyone know of a board that will work out of the box(without a BIOS flash or update) for the 9950, its looking more and more like i'm going to have to go with the 9850...

True but a single rail is better and the corsair 750TX is $30 cheaper.

The corsair 750TX is a rock solid psu. I ran a q6600 at 1.5v and 2 9800gx2's with no issues on mine.

two things:
1) xfx boards do come with SLI bridges.
2) the xigmatex s1283 is compatible with AM2+. it is copmpatible with AM2, therefore it is compatible with AM2+.
ok, wait here is a third:
3) the corsair PSU is better.
okay one more:
4) there is no way i would put a phenom 9950 in that asus 560 SLI mobo...even if it does support it, of which i am STRONGLY doubtful.

pretty good rig ya got there for 1000 bucks.

That XFX board I posted is bad *** lol...
