You could always go for a Q9550

Nah, like I said, I'll get the E8500 because it's good enough to give me good gaming performance and cheap enough that when Nehelam comes out or quads become more useful it can be easilly replaced.

I was only saying that because i believe that the Q9550 performs better than the E8500 even though it isn't optimized (4 cores).

The Q9550 is the only Quad at the moment that seems "future proof" the rest of the other quads either need to be oc'd like crazy or cost too much to even bother with.

Get the Q9550 and you won't need to upgrade for quite a while.

What about Nehalem? Or maybe by the time games start using them they'll be cheaper, or superior?

Get the Q9550 if you have $330 laying around for a CPU. If your on a tighter budget there are always cheaper alternatives.
