I know the Nalahlem is coming out at the end of the year but I need to start my build know. I have all the other parts picked out already, just hampered on which set up to go for. (X48 vs. p45) The price difference between these 3 set ups is 209 dollars. Since I'm getting my system know and will not be upgrading for a couple of years which one will last me the longest. I feel the x48 motherboard set up will. Because of the ability to upgrade to dual gpus (x16 pci slots) DDR3 memory, even though I won't be able to take full advantage of it like the x58 motherboards will, but its newer technology and I will be able to max the x48 board out in the future.

Asus Rampage Extreme
Q9550
Price: 668.98

vs. (55.00 Price diff)

Asus Rampage Formula
Q9550
Price: 613.98

vs. (30.00 Price diff)

Asus Maximus II
Q9550
Price: 583.98

vs. (124.00 Price diff)

Asus Maximus II
Q6600
Price:459.98

I was leaning towards option 2 too until they raised the price of the rampage formula?!? after the extreme came out. I dunno why they would do that, but it went from 250 to 300 dollars. Know the extreme is price at 389 but they have a combo deal with the q9550 on newegg. Which pretty much makes the extreme about 50 dollars more than the formula.

Is the exteme not a better board than its older counterpart?

personally, i would make a budget build and wait. i feel that the i7's will be alot better than what we are seeing now. otherwise i would just get a q6600/q5500 4870 p45 system, the extra cash you will spend is just no worth it at all, by the time u add extra cards for crossfire it wont be worth it. the 4870x2 already is as good as 4870 Xfire.
