I am about to buy an athlon 64bit processor, which according to dabs is socket 754.

I am also looking at the asus a8v motherboard. The review of this board states that it is suitable for socket 939 athlon 64 fx and althlon 64 chips.

Im confused. The socket layout of these sockets look completely different. How is it that the asus board can support athlon 64 whenit has a socket 939? does the athlon 64 bit processor come in socket 939 and 754 variations?

please help!

so an athlon 64 3200+ wont work in the asus board that has a socket 939 and claims to support both althlon 64 and althlon 64 fx?

940 requires ECC modules (error correction) - 939 does not.

940 uses registered . . . 939 uses unbuffered (better and cheaper)

also, 939 is the only one of the 3 (754, 939, 940) that can run dual channel ram, and is the one that amd is going to stick with
