If u don't have a network or home router, u could just buy a crossover network cable. it's different from normal ethernet cables because it can let u network 2 pcs directly from one's Lan port to the other's..
then u just set up ur xp network wizard... turn on file sharing on ur old pc and drag everything.. i copied 48 GB of data in under 3 hours this way.

Is the data worth 100 dollars? If so, go purchase an external drive. If not, reformat and start over.

You have no network, you don't have an extra drive, you don't have many options here.
