Any of them, but youd need to clock the CPU even higher, probably a minimum of 3.4 Ghz..

+ 1... but its not really worth it to have two HD 4870X2's, in some games there maybe a microstutter or even some performance drop

Quad crossfire is yielding almost zero performance increase over a single x2. Crossfire 4870 or 4870x2 is going to be the strongest setup you can get. The only time the x2 pulls ahead of crossfire 4870s is in games that actually use more than the 512mb of memory on the crossfire setup. This only happens on 2-3 games on a 30" monitor. That being said, an x2 is probably going to be a bit cheaper than going crossfire 4870 and good board. Also, the x2 seems to draw a smidge less power than the crossfire setup.

<3 my 4870 crossfire setup.

the GX2 sufffers more from microsttering than newer cards and setups.

Two X2's or Slied (2 or 3) GTX 280's would produce such high frame rates that you wouldn't be able to notice microtstuttering as much if at all.

For 2 X2's in crossfire youd need at least a 30' moniter to take advantage of the power...

oh ok... but still we should let him know its still not worth it for dual HD 4870X2's in CrossfireX

stock vs stock the 4870x2 is faster than 4870 crossfired.

This is because the 2 GPUs can communicate with eachother more efficiently as they are not JUST using a PCI-E bridge.

That said, 4870s in xfire will be easier to cool, and therefore reach higher clocks....
