Those cheaper GTX 280's have even slower/worse stock speeds than the one used to test against the 4870X2. Not to mention, the 4870X2 JUST launched, so in a few weeks, it's price will drop down as well. Considering the margin of improvement, I think the 4870X2 is still the best deal. Wait 2 weeks and we'll see it really be the absolute best buy.

Look at Crysis a 3870x2 does not perform as well as in other games for just this reason.

I always thought it was because nVidia programed that game and it does better with SLi/ nVidia cards

Actually, when you step it up to the highest of resolutions (1920x1080 and up), the HD 4870X2 beats out the GTX 280 by a great margin even in Crysis!
