Re: EP45-DS3R won't allow Q9450 overclock past 3.2GHz or retain manual voltage settin

yes. which is why i am not buying it lol....when i said "i cant do it..." i mean i cant do it because it is an utter waste of money with this chip.
you dont need it, at all. unless you have a crappy cooler or case or live in the sahara.
really, what i said when we were talking about that was that the temps were so low that having water was pointless because likely before you reach the max temp you would have so much voltage pumping through it it will be dead. at least this one, anyways.
i just need something to buy heh heh...

Re: EP45-DS3R won't allow Q9450 overclock past 3.2GHz or retain manual voltage settin

I think I just need a better overclocking motherboard is all. The EP45-DS3R isn't "low-end" but it definitely isn't "high-end." Even though it supports 16GB and I only have 8GB in right now I think it is the MCH holding me back. I've tried up to 1.42V so far and Memtest freezes. When I put it on Auto it passes but I have no idea what voltage it's using to make a manual setting. I can get 3.4Ghz...like I said but Prime95 returns errors. I guess I'll live at 3.2GHz...still much faster than 2.66.

Re: EP45-DS3R won't allow Q9450 overclock past 3.2GHz or retain manual voltage settin

do you have everest? If not try HWmonitor

Re: EP45-DS3R won't allow Q9450 overclock past 3.2GHz or retain manual voltage settin

I use both...but this motherboard doesn't seem to have a sensor for MCH Core. The only voltages it shows are: CPU Vcore, DDR, +3.3, +5, +12, and VBat.

These settings worked for me @3.4Ghz

Re: EP45-DS3R won't allow Q9450 overclock past 3.2GHz or retain manual voltage settin

Thanks...many of your settings are very similar to what I tried and it will boot but won't pass Prime95. I strongly believe it is my memory. Anytime I change a MCH Voltage or DRAM setting (aside from the DRAM voltage itself) my computer freezes. I think it may be a glitch with the F8 BIOS and Corsair memory. I may give your settings a shot though...although my EP45-DS3R does not have ICH Core or Voltage Type...just ICH I/O. It also doesn't have CPU Reference 2. Also, I have 8GB of memory and am told that may be the issue. What affect does No-execute memory protect have on overclocking? Should I have it on or off? I've always seen it left on along with CPU Thermal Protection. I've already seen what happens when EIST and C1E are on...so I definitely have those off. What BIOS version are you using...since it says you have the same motherboard I have, yet you have additional settings?

Re: EP45-DS3R won't allow Q9450 overclock past 3.2GHz or retain manual voltage settin

EDIT!

Sorry, should have said my board is the P45 DS3P, but the bios is virtually identical.

If its any help i m using 2 x 1Gb and 2 x 2Gb G.Skill DDR2 8500 with no issues.

have you tried loosening the memory timings and changing the clock skew?

Re: EP45-DS3R won't allow Q9450 overclock past 3.2GHz or retain manual voltage settin

My memory timings are at CL5 and I'm not familiar with changing clock skew.

Re: EP45-DS3R won't allow Q9450 overclock past 3.2GHz or retain manual voltage settin

dang the more posts i see about the q9450 it makes me think i got a good one. even though it wont go past 3.5, it does it on way less volts than any others i have seen on TF...

Re: EP45-DS3R won't allow Q9450 overclock past 3.2GHz or retain manual voltage settin

I must admit i'm not happy with my vcore @1.35, but with all 4 DIMM slots full it fails prime 95 at anything lower.

I might take 2 modules out and go for a lower vcore like yours!

That'll only leave me with 4Gb:eek:!
