Games on DVD-ROM and CD-ROM

I was talking about this with a friend of mine:-

Besides having a greater capacity, will a DVD-ROM produce a higher quality gaming experience than a CD-ROM? Will it actually perform better in any way?

The quality is about the same because both formats use digitized data, the real advantage is the greater storage capacity of the DVD.
