No, but I dont have any way to update them unless I get a USB floppy drive. Do you really think that bios from 2005 would cause it to do what it's doing?

Because the old bios may not work well with the new 80gb drive. That model only came with 40gb or lower drives.

OK, I've tried two known good hard drives and have similiar issues. It doesn't even want to finish now, the screen messes up horribly and it freezes (like the screen begins overlapping itself)..... I updated the BIOS on it already, there was some kind of HD update on ibms site, but dont think thats it. Am I screwed here??

It looks like bought you a broken laptop. Sorry to say, you probably got screwed.

I turn it on with the hdd and ram out. the computer will beep and not boot. then I put them back. it always seem to fix the issue
