Hello all. I am new here!

I don't know much about hardware setups etc. but I'm a software programmer so hopefully I'll be able to help out a little more in that area of the forums.

Anyways, on to the point...

I'm ready for a new computer system, and I am interested in making it as silent as possible. I'd like to be able to do some musical recordings with my new system and it would be nice not to have fan noise.

Most of the sites I've seen about water cooling seem to require a fan for the system? Which to me kind of makes it pointless. I know most people get the water cooling so that they can overclock, but for me the number one reason is for quiet operation. (Although overclocking isn't out the window either.)

Is there such a thing as a completely fanless system?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

lol if u can afford it this works well id guess http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/ex-rad-33.html

U also might try googling for passive radiators for computers ur bound to get sumthing and ive heard sumthing about thermaltake i think is making a case that cools everthing by using heat pipes and the whole outside of the case is a heatsink, sounds interesting but i think a silent comp is gonna require money. Unless u jus buy lotsa sounds absorbant foam

Pax.mate is good and fairly cheap http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/noi-02.html

hope i could help

Disreguard what the first two said. You can still run the system on air, and I would get the Zalman (copper if possible) CPU heatsink, its really quiet and cools very well, that, or you could watercool if you had the money and the time. Yoshi from The Screen Savers built a silent computer, the link is here:

It tells you what he used, etc. You'll find alot of info from that link about building a silent pc. :)

Happy building!,

there's also those VGA coolers that use the heatpipe technology, i'm not sure how well they work.. and i've never actually heard of anyone that had one and said anything good about it =/..
