8800GT 512 vs 1GB

if I can afford running 8800GT 1GB in SLI, should I? or is it not worth the money/performance over SLI 512's?

I pretty sure the 1gb model is actually worse.

And if you can i would look at something like a 9800gtx sli.

well its the 8800GT Akimbo vs the regular 8800GT....whats so great about the 9800gtx?

is 1GB better than 512 for the money? thats what im asking really. how is more memory worse?

not sure why exactly but I'm, sure the 1Gb version performed worse then the 512mb by a small amount.

Yea i remember that too in a benchmark, it cant efficiently use the 1gb or something.
So no its not worth it to get the 1gb.

Why are you looking at the 8800GT anyway...the 9800GTX and 8800GTS 512mb have both fallen in price dramatically and are better than the 8800GT....also the 4850 is far better than all those 3 cards and not much more expensive.

An 8800 gt can be had for $130, but gurusan is right, all the other cards are within a close enough distance that it wouldn't be worth it, even for sli.

If you want a cheap last generation card though, you could crossfire 3870's, as you can get one for like $90-100 now? or something crazy.

But you would be better off with a 4850, check out some of gurusan's results with his.


Oh and yes, the 1gb 8800 gt actually performed worse then the 512mb 8800 gt.

alright....well lets say I am willing to spend like $400-450 on a SLI setup. would you still recommend the 4850?

1024x768...cuz everything else crashes....the resolution for the monitor im getting is 1680x1050
