SLI or Crossfire

Thanks. Just to ask, what would be a good sli board on par with the 780i? Also, would it be worth getting a 9450/9550 after price drop?

Q9450's price won't drop... it will be discontinued..

However the Q9550 will become Q9450's current price.. unless you like playing the waiting game... its not worth it (but I'm somewhat impatient)

I'll be waiting anyway, so its not a problem. Just wondering if it would be worth getting a q9550 or not. Also, a good sli board?

Ehh.. SLi boards... they are quite buggy right now...

I prefer Crossfire boards because you can use really nice P35/ P45/ X38/ X48 boards which will get you better overclocks, also the fact is that ATi's cards have really good bang for the buck thanks to the release of the HD 4850/ 4870 but I thought you wanted to get Crossfire because you mentioned HD 4870/50

750i FTW, 780i's are good boards (by those bugs I mean the video corruption bug, if you Google you'll get tons of pages giving a thorough explanation on it) But in fact nobody here has recommended either of those boards in a 2 or 3 weeks haha..

Thanks. Yea, I think im sold on the rampage board with x48. As for the 4870x2, is it suppose to outperform then 4870 in crossfire? Also, your throughts on the q9550 over the q6600?

If you are interested, i'm going to be selling my 680i in the next 2 weeks or so. Switched over to an x38 and 2 4870s. Its been rock solid for 6 months now. Good north bridge temps, runs my q6600 at 9x400 with no hiccups.

If I decided to go with a single gtx280 for now, what mothetboard next to the 780i would you suggest? Best of the best.

If you wanted to go DDR3 RAM then get the 790i or 790i Ultra SLI chipset but I don't think there's much point in getting DDR3 RAM, even tho the motherboards are 1600MHz Bus speed rather than 1333MHz, I think.

For crossfire, what would be the best combination?

x2 4870
4870 + 4870x2
x2 4870x2

What is the estimated price of the 4870x2 by the way, if anyone knows.
