Western Digital or Maxtor?

Thanks everyone, I just got back from Fry's. The model number is WD1200JBRTL.

I thought about the Serial ATA as well. It's just I'm not really sure how to set it up? My mobo is on the way from Newegg. It's an ASUS P4P800 SE. I believe it has SATA support, right?

all new model mobo have SATA support. need no worries about that.

it would say on the box i'm sure. you can also look it up on the asus web site to.

that mobo has sata, and should come with sata cable(s) if the drive does not. from what i know, sets up the same as ata

i like western digital, only because they have the raptors on sata interfaces

Can I use just a single SATA drive? I've seen something about raid? Do I need to use it?

Also, I see most SATA drives that I researched except the Raptors seem to have the same seek times and RPM's as IDE's. What makes the SATA's better?

first, no you dont need to put sata in raid . . . it can be standalone

satas have a THEORETICAL speed advantage over ides (150 over 133/100), but most people see, if at all, just a little bit of advantage

also, satas use smaller cables, so it provides better airflow

I once blew up my WD IDE...
Now using Maxtor and Samsung, much better in my opinion

All are good harddrives... Maxtor is just terrible (IMO). Almost set my entire room on fire those bastards.

lol, now shake you fist at em'! well like i said we have on wd and one maxtor and i haven't seen a problem yet, just go with what you can aford.
