I just ordered a new hs/f (thermalright ultra-120 extreme with scythe s-flex) since stock isn't cutting it and i want to finally start overclocking my e8400! So now i am thinking of upgrading to 4GB of ram. SO my question is would getting two more sticks of 1gb perform slower then two 2gb sticks? Because it would be cheaper to just get two more sticks of:

Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

then to buy:

Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

any suggestions?

~thanks

No, but having two more sticks would add more strain on the system. 2x2gb is a better way to go. You just won't be able to overclock as far as 2 sticks. I want to say a couple hundred mhz for the cpu that is. You would also need more MCH voltage

Watch out... make sure that each set of sticks have around the same voltage, otherwise there's going to be some instability in your rig

and just remove your current sticks

Newegg.com - pqi TURBO 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

and get one of those, they are equivalent to DDR2 800 4-4-4-12, DDR2 800 Cas 5, 5-5-5-15 could limit your overclock some..

i thought i had to get DDR 800 ram? My mobo is the abit ip35-e

No, for some reason some people say you had to use a certain RAM as the standard, as long as its DDR2 240pin it'll work, trust me I know about these things

Wouldn't DDR2 533mhz limit his overclock more than cas5 DDR2 800mhz? Running at 1:1 his ram would already be at 667mhz at stock. I suppose he could loosen the timings on the DDR2 533 and increase the speed but he still wouldn't be able to overclock very far.

I would get this DDR2 1066 ram which should give you more room to overclock.

Sometimes yes.. I couldn't find that navy blue G-Skill 4gb kit for some reason D: when I posted that yesterday
