To Vista or not to Vista, that is the question

I have Vista-32 running on 2x1gb of ram and it runs like a dream, even on power-hungry games. Virtually no slow down at all.

I haven't ever heard of people running Server '08 on a gaming rig. Does it work well?

im using it fine. apparently its just a barebones version of vista. it doesn't even come with the visual themes enabled. You gotta go in and do it all manually if you even want them.

I'm thinking about getting Vista Ultimate. I can get the full install at my school for $120. Should I go for that? If I get Vista I'm going to get another 2 gigs of ram.

I felt like changing to Vista too but the more I think about it, I'll probably just wait another year for Windows 7 and just jump on to that with a new build.

Yeah, but with this, I can basically get it for free Would it be a good idea to run vista 64 bit with my new parts?

Its a good idea, its needed in fact if you want to see all 4gb's of RAM in Vista, and the 512mb of your GPU, otherwise if you had 32bit you'd see... 3gb.. (it sees a max of 3.5gb, but since you have a 512mb GPU, it subtracts that)

Are there not disadvantages to having Vista 64 though? I've heard from off-putting rumours.
