directx10 for xp

Okay so my buddy sent me a file of Dx10 for xp. It seems to work because in dxdiag it says I'm running dx10, but when i installed it, the installation text was all in weird script, like wingding lol so it's kinda fishy. Along with the file there was some internet shortcuts that looked pretty fishy. So I have the dx10 installed and ran AVG 8.0 and found like 200 cookies and what not.. AVG fixed them, but I'm kinda scared that this file might have had a key logger on it or something. Has anyone heard of, or use this Dx10 file for XP???

You can not use DX10 on XP. This is for demo purposes only. You can only run the included demo and only run it thru Visual Studio i believe. Other than that DX10 on XP will be useless.

But depending on where you got it from it can be filled with spyware and viruses.

If you went as far as to trust your friend about this, you should have stopped at the weird text. That is never a good sign. I would try and remove any files that were installed with that and maybe even an XP repair to make sure DX9 is still ok. I don't know if you can do that but I would think that theres a possibility it messed with your directx.

I just restored my computer to an earlier time. I checked dxdiag and it says dx9.0c again and it doesn't say there are any problems in the files.

Restoring to an earlier time should undo everything that was installed as far as in the system right?

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediately.

Let's see if we have to get this over to the HJT Forums. I don't see anything wrong with your log but I suspect malware lurks about

I couldn't tell you. It does sometimes show itself as a legit process when it isn't. You can usually tell if it takes alot of system resources in task manager.
