I have an old IBM (not even Lenovo) Thinkpad T21-2647. It has the original Intel III(?) processor.

Is there anyway to upgrade the processor to something faster?

I'm assuming you've got either a P3 650mhz or 800mhz. Those are the only procs I can find on the parts sites that I like. It would take some Googling to see if you can upgrade beyond those....

Upgrading the proc probably isn't that hard. You'll just need the service manual from IBM's site for the specific instructions. Basically you're probably just unscrew 4-6 screws from the bottom of the laptop, lift up (carefully) the keyboard, detach cable, and you'll see the innards. Then it's just a matter of unclamping and removing the cpu cooling apparatus and replacing the chip.

buying p3's though is tough for 2 reasons. 1 they are so old that they are extremely hard to find. 2. if you do come across one they are so expensive (supply and demand.)
