i am think of replacing a hd that have already installed winxp to his computer, can this work??
but i used the same cd winxp instill to my computer without any problem.
hmm, do i need a third party or whatever from compaq company...

Yes, if it has XP already installed it will work. If you take his hard drive, but it in your PC, then load XP then put it back in it should work fine.

On some older computers (Pentium III and older) you have to update the BIOS before you can install XP. It will usually tell you that if that is the case though.

As far as installing it on one computer and then moving the HD to another, good luck. I have rarely gotten this to work to to the difference in hardware from one machine to the other. It will usually freeze while booting up.

i am just worry about bios/cmos setting now, because it has security feature. I could not find bios-logo and anti-virus at bios/cmos.

I will save the bios/cmos configuration into a floppy disk and add hardware and software diagnosis program.

I had downgrade his os, it working fine after downgrade.
it is a 2nd hand Compaq tower which is no cd and diskette but have xp installed and working fine, just one program couldn't install...

I'll post bios/cmos configuration in here. if you have more idea or comments, please don't hesitate to write to me.

:D that made my day lol "Good Luck." Because I know what he means. Xp does promote the fact that it is possible for it to update like this, but i rarely see it happening correctly. Even when this is done i still see a noticable difference in performance. I would suggest flash his bios (well since it's compaq I'm not sure how they do bios updates *shrugs*) and then try again. Also make sure in his bios that anti-virus is disabled along with shadowing. Also being as compaq, dell, and the rest of the companys give you very shady bios's that aren't very helpful (excluding a few) you may want to just stick with ME or 98SE. Tell him to upgrade and you build him one ;) You can build a decent gaming rig for about $480 off newegg or just a good business pc for $350.

Koopa Out

thanks all!
everything is back to normally but i need to disable the bios-logo, below is my friend bios/cmos current setting. basically the setting simple either ENABLE or DISABLE but so many....
