I'm going to have to say yes you need it. Thats a big heatsink to not have a backplate.

well i was thinking of lying it down till i got a back plate. i was just wondering, if the screws will fit the mother board holes or if i need the back plate.

I'll try heating it. I heard putting it in a freezer would work too but I don't think I want to try that. With my luck it'll defrost w/ all that condensation on it and screw everything up.

Ya, that back plate is a pain to get off... But just use a lot of strength and you will get it off the mobo.

yea thats the part I don't like. Trying to force something off usually ends up w/ things broken. I wouldn't care so much if it were something other than a mb

use a haird dryier, i dotn have one, so. also i got everything in, my only prob right now is one of my sticks of ram is bad, and i have stock heat sink, even lapped its at 45c idle with stock... its very very bad.
