Ok I am going to be getting a new video card soon (after new releases) either a Nvidia 8800GT 512MB or a radeon 3870 512MB.

here are the cards im looking at:

Newegg.com - ASUS EAH3870 TOP/G/HTDI/512M/A Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N808-AR GeForce 8800GT AKIMBO SuperClocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

I don't know much about video cards but the radeon has 320 sream processing units and the Nvidia one has 112. Does this make a difference?

anyways which one would be better for gaming, i plan on either SLI or Crossfire in the future when the card becomes old and cant play games on high.

thanks

Neither

I'd get a normal clocked 8800gt 512mb, and buy the AKIMBO Cooler separately to save money and install if yourself, because the 8800gt needs it, it runs hot

HD3870 does run cooler though with even the stock cooler, however the performance difference is quite little, seeing how much cheaper the HD is I'd get that

or consider a 9600gt

accelero>akimbo imo

Nvidia and ATI shaders aren't directly comparable.

a single 8800 GT 512MB has slightly better performance than a single 3870
a 3870 consumes slightly less power under load, and significantly less on idle, and scales better with multi-card setups

an 8800 GTS 512MB will perform better than either

I would get 8800GT out of those

Accoring to the review I saw from anadtech, 8800GT is 15% faster on average.

And the one you posted is factory overclocked as well
