Hi, last year I bought a couple parts to start my computer but never finished; now I am looking to finish it. So far I have the following:

Intell E6600
Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Lian Li PC-60APlusII

I've been looking around on newegg for some memory, power supply and video card and have been looking into these:

Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10000 RPM SATA 1.5Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM ($170)

COOLER MASTER Real Power Pro RS-750-ACAA-A1 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply - Retail ($170)

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ - Retail ($140)

EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail ($150)

I don't think that I need a secondary hard drive for storage because I already have a 500gb external seagate hard drive. Also I will be using my optical out into my onkyo home theater receiver for my sound.

All of these parts are from what I learned about computers last year so I probably am a little out dated. Can you guys please tell me if this would be worth the money, or is there something else that would provide better performance for around the same or a little more? I might be SLI'ing another EVGA 8800 GTS in the future.

Also, any recommendations on any cd rom drives? I feel like I forgot some parts that I need so please tell me.

Also I do work at Fry's Electronics so I could get discounts if we carry the parts.

**Keep in mind that I am no gamer, however I do not like to be limited in any way so I am trying to get a little more than I need.**

If you're going to keep this build anyway, you might consider getting the 512 version of the 8800GTS. It's much better than the 320, and doesn't really cost that much more.
If you want to get a raptor that's your choice, personally I'm fine with 7200rpms. If you just want it for more storage, I'd get a sataII, mebbe a 320 for 70 bucks.
Apart from that, it looks ok to me.

Get a Lite-On 20x DVD Burner with LightScribe. You most likely have them at Fry's as well as the CPU and possibly memory. I would agree with Soulphire and say that you need to get the 512MB version of the 8800GTS. Other than that, your build looks fine. Although if you aren't a gamer, the 10,000rpm Raptor would be unnecessary and you could get by very well with a 500GB Seagate 32MB Cache 7200.11 hard drive for cheaper than the 150GB Raptor.

I would assume that 2 320mb 8800GTS's would be better than just one 512 8800GTS wouldn't it?

I don't think I'd be using the hard drive for storage. I've used only 40gbs out of 180gbs on the computer I am using now so I think 320gb's would be a waste.

How does lightscribe work? And I have the CPU already.

Again, don't you think 2 320mb 8800GTS's would be better than just one 512 8800GTS?

I really don't need 500gb's of storage. Like I told soulphire, I've used only 40gbs out of 180gb's on the computer I'm using now, so I doub't I would need that much.

No, 1 8800GTS 512mb card would outperform 2 8800GTS 320mb. The 320mb cards run off of an older g80 core I believe and run far slower. Plus the single 8800GTS 512mb would be cheaper. As far as storage goes, if you haven't even used 40GB's of your old hard drive why not just get 160GB 7200rpm drive. They will be far FAR cheaper than the Raptor and offer plenty of storage for your needs. Plus with that size of hard drive, any difference from 7200 to 10,000rpm wouldn't be noticed.

EDIT: LightScribe just enables you to add an image to the CD you are burning. To do this you just need a LightScribe specific CD's or DVD's to burn to and software that will burn and print onto the LightScribe disk. There is no need for ink because LightScribe uses chemical coated CD's that allow the drive to create Laser Etched pictures.

Alright guys, so I went out to Fry's Electronics today and got a couple things. Tell me what you guys think.

Maxtor 500gb internal SATA II hard drive - $90 on sale
7200rpm
16mb cache buffer
< 9.3 ms seek time
Hard Drive Kits Maxtor Basics SATA II 300 Hard Drive Kit

I'm a little worried about the memory. I originally wanted this:

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ - Retail ($140)

but it was a lot more and half the memory.

Also how are maxtor drives? Do they have a low fail rate?

Don't worry about your ram, the ones you picked will do fine for you.

As to the hdd, I tend to steer clear of Maxtor in favour of Western Digital drives. meh, I guess I've used a lot of old maxtors and they were always failing. I can't say how good they are now though, as I haven't bought any recently.

Seagate acquired Maxtor . My bro has had one for 4years and its still going strong

Edit: Your psu is overkill. A corsair 520hx or 550vx will be plenty, even for sli. Pick up the 512 version of the GTS like everyone suggested or since your willing to spend $300 you could grab the 9800GTX instead.
