So I've got a tiny problem

I've got a gateway computer, running windows XP SP2. Every time I plug in a flash drive (anything that holds data actually) it only gives me that the drive is not formatted and needs to be in order to view it.

drive works fine, tested it in another computer.

I've reinstalled the USB drivers. Done plenty of malware scans (drweb, adaware, spybot) I've even tried to give the device a new letter and path to see if that would fix it.

so far nothing.

is there something I'm missing!?

Thanks....btw, first post

Have you updated the operating system, Service pack three?
Updated the USB Drivers? Not just reinstall them..
Done a bios Flash?

Hey thanks for the timely reply.

SP3 as we speak,
USB drivers could be updated sure, relatively new computer tho.

BIOS upgrade!? isn't it a little drastic?

I have a USB mouse that works perfectly tho.

Ste is right. You need to update the chipset drivers. Doing a repair install will not help you.
