printer problems

would connecting a printer DIRECTLY to the parralel port on the computer make a difference as opposed to having it connected through a selection switch to the parralel port with a scanner.
it is a question i have come across.basically a printer needs its ink cartridges replaced every monday regardless of how much printing has been done the previous week.
any other ideas what to do?

No it shouldn't make a difference, are you getting prints with garbled text? And dbout you ink problem, what kind of printer do you have, maybe you change print quality settings
