My BIOS (ASUS A8N-SLI) doesn't specifically have those options. It has Extended IDE drive which is set to Auto (other is none). Also offers Access mode, which is set to Auto instead of large.

Dont know what to tell you at this point. Have you checked for a updated BIOS?

That's not the problem though as I haven't changed hardware in this time. Just created a RAID array and then removed it. A point of interest is I left the Vista install on a separate hard drive and did boot from it and viewed the SMART data while having RAID (No RAID driver so windows saw the drives as unformatted - separate.)

Is it possible to force an update to the XP driver as specified in the edit in the first post? (Windows says it has the best one already)

If there is a updated drive go into the Device Manager and lead it right to the place of the newer driver. It should install it.

That is where I am doing it. I already have the latest vista drivers installed. I want to install the XP ones but it will not let me roll back.

The XP ones will not work in Vista. At least not correctly.
