Floppy drive

Use a flash drive instead. I updated BIOS on my Gigabyte P35-DS3R, and it recognizes it fine. Just put all your data on it, in a subdirectory with the BIOS files in the root directory, or use an empty flash drive.
 
Yes, a jump drive (same thing as a flash drive). It should be able to...most if not all newer boards are able to boot off of USB devices.
 
If you go into your BIOS setup, there should be an option in there which enables you to boot from a flash drive (usb drive, jump drive, whatever u call it).
