What numbers.

My 8800GTS 512mb did 800/2000/2200 on stock vGPU, and 900/2300/2200 on 1.4ish vGPU

9800GTX = 8800GTS OC with tri-sli capabilities.

BFG now has a step-up program, and theirs is for 100 days, I do believe.

BFG Tech FTL.

Well, its good that they do, maybe other companies will also. I will never buy from BFG because I have never seen them with the lowest price. And I don't like them.

EVGA FTW.

They are the same cards really, the 9800GTX OC just is a little faster due to the higher clocks...but those clocks can easily be reached (and surpassed) with a much cheaper 8800GTS

Yes, but brewabeer didnt have to void his warranty by volt modding his. And 269 for a GTX is an excellent deal, considering i paid 359 for my GTS when it first came out. You arent going to find an Evga GTS for "much" less than 269.

An 8800GTS cannot reach 800core/1200mem. *edit* and I didn't even test it any higher than that. I don't know what it could go to.

my 8800GTS reached 800/2000/2200 on entirely stock vGPU .....another 80-100 dollars for a few more mhz doesn't seem worth it to me.

What 8800GTS is $199?

I had other reasons for getting it, mainly because I was going to use the step up anyways so it didn't matter. BTW, I've had both the 8800GTS and the 9800GTX.....the 9800GTX is a flat out better card.

And I think the 9800GTX can easily reach 850/2500.

Newegg.com - ECS N8800GTS-512MX GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
here's one for 170 usd after rebate...and quite a lot of them are between 200-210 without a rebate

I've never seen a 9800GTX do 850/2500.....whereas I've seen quite a few of 8800GTS cards capable of 800mhz

You may have had other reasons to go to a 9800GTX, I'm just trying to give the OP some advice regarding the price/performance side of things.
