The OCZ Reapers for DDR2 800 seem to be the top choice for most enthusiasts. The pricing isn't too bad at all for a stable 4-4-4-12.

I guess my question is, are these top-of-the-line when it comes to DDR2, without getting ridiculous with the price/performance ratio?

I currently have DDR2 800 Crucial Ballistix and I am very unsatisfied with the stability. I am probably going to RMA and EBay them or keep the sticks for backup; newegg customer reviews feature quite a few stability and failure issues with this RAM, oh well.

Newegg has a good deal for the:
OCZ Reaper HPC Edition (4GB) 2x2GB sticks for only 104.99 and 85.99 after mail-in rebate. I'm thinking of getting 2 for 8GB of RAM; (I run a lot of applications with no Paging, sometimes I run out of memory with 4GB of RAM.)

Peter Cort is in love with those sticks... wow they got cheap.. they were $120 last time he showed them to me

I think OCZ lost some popularity because they were having problems with p965 boards. If your motherboard can take them, they're great ram.
