8800gt SLI over 9800gtx (G92)

Yea I was originally planning on the EVGA 8800GTS

But got to thinking about spending 300 bucks for a 9800GTX, and figured, if I'm gonna spend that much, why not do 8800GT's sli and have that much more power.

So if everyone is saying to go with a 750i "ftw"? board with 9600gt sli maybe I should do something like that?..

I will be using a x3220 quadcore cpu that I got already.
Was going to buy asus p5e x38 + evga 8800GTS + 1066fsb (2x2g)

Iono what to look at for sli though..

I'm using an Acer x243w monitor 1920x1200 24" monitor and I'm using my nearly 5 year old gaming rig.. for once my monitor is actually ahead of the game haha.. Upgraded from a 17" to this 24" beast couple months back.. I got it for like 250 from a mail in rebate.. thank you black friday!

9600GT sli is currently the most powerful setup for the amount of money you spend in my opinion.

However next gen cards are about to come out. Normally I'm against waiting for hardware to come out, but the GT200 dual core GPU from Nvidia is just around the corner and ATI's 48xx series will launch very shortly after that in mid June, and will be dirt cheap as well. 200 bucks for the 512mb version

its not dual core. Its just going to be another HUGE gpu like the g80 was. Just buy an evga card(s) and register them. Thats what i did. If gt200 is the second coming of christ like some people thing it will be, i'll just step up my 2 new 9800GTX's ><

I agree with you on the 9600GT SLI.

I had an 8800GT which I managed to upgrade to the 9800GTX for free. I was thinking about 9600GT in SLI, but the reason I chose the 9800GTX was because I have step-up until August 1st, which I want to use on a 9900GTX if it is worth it.

With the prices so low on the Radeon 48xx series, I hope it brings the 9900GTX/GTS prices down into the $300(GTS) or $400(GTX) range. GX2 will be $600 like always.

One thing about the 9800GTX, I love the overclocking ability and the little amount of heat I was putting out when I overclocked it. Went from 675/2200 to 802/2400 with no artifacts. I wonder if I could have pushed it higher.......

simple, 9600gt performs great for the price you pay (almost as well as the 8800gt for a lot cheaper)

the 750i FTW board is a lot like a 780i except theres no Tri-SLI (which with a 9600gt you don't really need/ can't have) on the 750i FTW and there are no visual freeze bugs like on the normal reference 780i/750i

8800gt SLI over 9800gtx

I had been looking at getting an 8800GT or a 9600GT, and in the end I decided to wait to see how the prices settle.

From my last forum post, it seems that the 8800GT and the 9600GT have similar performance, with the 8800Gt edging out the 9600GT a little – with the 9600GT doing better in SLI mode.

2 months later, now the prices on the 9600GT have dropped, and the cheapest I could find is $140 (but one of the big 3 (BFG,EVGA or XFX) is more at around $150:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681413

Now, I found this XFX 8800 GT XXX Video, 256MB DDR3 for $120 – but it also comes with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare – which kinda makes this a better deal.

XFX Call of Duty 4 at TigerDirect.com

The 9600GT is $20-$30 more – so the 8800GT still looks competitive, but everyone has been telling me to try COD, so to me it is more like a $60 difference.

Does this make getting the XFX 8800GT XXX a no brainer, or am I missing something. I mean how can I go wrong for $120 + a game I want to try?

Is there some $150 card coming out in the next month that will blow the 88800GT performance away?

Re: 8800gt SLI over 9800gtx

ur looking at the wrong 8800GT. the 8800GT 512MB is the one that is faster than the 9600GT not the 880GT 256MB

In most cases, the 8800gt 256 can still put a smack down to the 9600gt.

Some games favor the 9600gt cause of more ram, others dont.
