Which setup? Buying in a week.

Hi guys,

My old AMD64 3500+ is showing its age & it's time to upgrade to something with a little/lot more grunt. I am tossing up with these 3 systems and would like your input/advice on the direction I should be going. The PC will mainly be used for online mmorpg type games & the occasional FPS.

Machine 1.

Q9300, Gigabyte X38-DS4 or X38-DQ6 ($100 diff), Gigabyte 512mb 8800GT, PQA 2G Kit 1066 Ram, then the usual periphials.

Machine 2.

E8500 with the same extra's as above.

Machine 3.

Phenom X4 9850, Gigabyte MA790X-DS4 with the same extra's.


I am currently running 2 OC 8600GTs in Sli and am tossing up whether I can continue to use them in the new PC or should I go with the 8800GT?

I want this PC to last a while without having to upgrade it. My current PC has lasted 3.5yrs only with a change to the 8600GT's.

Any advice on my options or an entirely new setup is welcomed. I am hoping to get a PC within 1 week.

+1 I agree with gurusan. The Phenom just doesn't cut it as a quad-core processor, and the Q9300 isn't worth it.

Oh and the 8800GT would be a much better card than your 8600's. Get the 8800GT 512MB. It will hold you out for a good while, and you can always get another in the future for SLI which would be much better than your current SLI setup.

I agree. The Q6600 out-performs the Phenom's. I'd say get it with the first setup.
