Re: The Tech Forums Official 3DMark06/05/03 Top List

My 6000+ at 3.45GHZ is only a bottleneck in 3dmark06 because it isn't a quad.

Think you might be mistaken there. I had an E6300 @ 3.2ghz and it was bottlenecking my 3850/3870 crossfire setup in 3dmark06. Another 560mhz and 2mb cache REALLY helped out. Take a look at my scores, specifically the GPU scores of course.

As you can see, GPU performance increased an average of 20% with the extra CPU power, which is a pretty significant difference....and furthermore, an E6300 @ 3.2ghz is actually a bit faster than a X2 @ 3.45ghz in 3dmark06 as well....

3850/3870 CF + E6300 @ 3.2ghz
3DMark Score 14186 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 6327
SM 3.0 Score 7734
CPU Score 2711

3850/3870 CF + E6750 @ 3.76ghz
3DMark Score 17070 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 7813
SM 3.0 Score 8963
CPU Score 3324

i think the cache helps much more than the increase in clock speed.
your cpu score is indeed better than my 3.2ghz 5000...but not that huge of a difference.
if this link works, it shows an e6600 @ 3ghz giving only a 150 point cpu score advantage. of course, thats the problem with benchmarks....lol...it all depends who is on the business end of them. i would have gotten higher with an e6600, probably :)

Hmm, What score do you 'spose my soon to be built Wolfdale machine from my sig would get? Assuming the e8400 is overclocked to 3.6Ghz (or even higher if I end up being able to afford an aftermarket cooler)

Re: The Tech Forums Official 3DMark06/05/03 Top List

High 13k -ish

But with that P35-DS3L you could easily hit 4.0ghz.. try to do that :D

doesnt showup
you have to register and make the score public

also nice score

Re: The Tech Forums Official 3DMark06/05/03 Top List

Think maybe my 3600+ is bottlenecking my 8800GT? So when my e8400 shows up I might actually get a little more out of my gpu? (I noticed gurusan's post above..)

Alright, off topic, I'm STILL lagging terribly in Oblivion... I rarely play it anymore, but its become a personal goal of mine to smooth it out.. I heard that a slower CPU will cause periodic lagging due to all the background elements happening in the game, such as weather and whatnot, or is this just a rumor?

Re: The Tech Forums Official 3DMark06/05/03 Top List

well considering how much goes on in that game.. i'm pretty sure it is pretty cpu intensive.. but it could also be ur 1.5gb or ram doing it, i think 2 could straighten it out abit along w/ ur new cpu
