Need help choosing replacement parts for pc

Hey, my motherboard blew out on my pc, and it seems as though it is almost the same price to buy a newer mobo with a better processor compared to replacing the old one. Here are my computer's current specs:

AMD athlon 64 3700+ socket 939 processor
ASUS A8ne socket 939 motherboard
1 gig corsair ram
480 watt psu
1900xt graphics card
atx case

Anyone have any idea as to how to get the best mobo/processor combo that will be compatible with the pc for around 150-200 dollars? On newegg it looks possible with the AM2 motherboards/procs, but then again I don't entirely know what I'm looking at.
