I checked the PSU Guide here, but I'm having a hard time gauging whether or not the PSU I have here would support the system. It's a low wattage but has a high amperage over the 12V rails.

Also, what do you all think about going for a quad-core instead? I'm mainly a gamer, so I'm wondering if the prospect of multi-threaded apps in the near future would be worth jumping to the quad-core boat.

Otherwise, if anyone can see any bottlenecks or just has comments on the system I'd appreciate it.

PSU looks ok, could go for a Corsair 550vx

I would go for a q6600 since future proof and you can overclock to 3+ghz

You don't really need ddr2 1200. You could get a p5k or P5KC and ddr2 800 and cut some price.

Besides that maybe someone else can take a look.
 
I would maybe get a different power supply and ram.....that is gonna be a great pc for sure....no doubt.

I love my new Wolfdale, but then I'm not a gamer.
How big of a case is yours? I have a large floor model (CMStacker) with excess air cooling capacity. I'm not sure why, but air flow has always seemed important to me.
Ever wonder though about how as soon as you buy a new CPU, a better one comes along that you'd rather have? :laughing:
BTW, is there anything better than Asus, or is that just a given? They produce so many different models, I wonder if they concentrated on producing a lesser variety, if they could build even better ones with less of a failure rate and better longevity? :rolleyes:

looks good, maybe get a 7200.11 HD, step down on the Kingston, you can get a good 4gb OCZ Reaper Kit for the same price, consider the q6600, its the most future proof, bang for the buck CPU out right now

that PSU, might be enough, but its pushing it if you want upgrade ability, I recommend a PC Power and Cooling 610 Silencer, because its really cheap on the 'egg right now

These changes do some great things for the computer. For one, a nForce 780i board allows me the possibility of SLI-ing a second video card for an upgrade, while supporting 45nm technology if I so decide to upgrade that in the future. As well, the PSU is SLI certified and has a higher wattage (though I did like the higher amperage on the previous PSU).

With these changes, however, I am left with a few concerns. For one, am I overshooting with the video card upgrade? I did a comparison, and essentially (after rebate) I will be paying $75 for 260 MHz memory clock speed, and the capability for OpenGL 2.1. So, is this really worth it or will my other components bottleneck it? As well, how do you all feel about the future capability of DDR2 800? Would it be smarter to go for DDR2 1066 so I don't have to upgrade in the immediate future? As well I'm fine losing some space if you think a 32 MB HD cache will show a significant difference.

Anyway, thank you all for putting up with my insanity and for helping me out with all this.
