DVD RW problem:maybe you can help

I have a optiarc dvd/rw, i cant remember how i got it but i know it wasnt new..
well my problem is this.. sometimes when i start my computer and after it does the memory test and tries to detect drives my dvd/rw sometimes isnt listed.
i can usually solve it by restarting once or twice but its quite inconvenient..

i think it started after i upgraded my comupter (new m/board,new graphic card,new power pack,new processor,new ram) but im not sure..
any help would be appreciated iv searched all over the net for ideas on what to do

Try a new IDE or SATA cable depending on what the drive is. And when it doesn't detect it during POST, does it show up at all in your BIOS and/or Windows? I had a computer that just wouldn't show any drives at POST but they still all worked thereafter.

well it doesnt show up at all in bios or windows unless its listed during post
i havent tried a new cable but i will
i took for granted that the cable would be ok cos i just bought the board about 2 month ago with new cables

well thanks again i guess now i got something else to try
