SLI worth doing with 19"???

But I want to start out with a good card, then later get another of the same card. Not buy 2 cheap cards now and have to upgrade in the future

For a 19" monitor I would not bother to SLI......One good card will be plenty.....I have a 9800GTX and am running everything so far at great frames on a 22" at 1680x1050...of course Crysis will be an exception to that.

I myself will only go SLI or crossfire if I go to a 1900X1200 resolution....I think that would be a fairly good rule....unless you just want a good benchmark score....but for gaming purposes only I think that is a fairly good rule.

for 1440x900 even a 3850 will slaughter pretty much all games except for Crysis.

I wouldn't bother with a 9800GTX at that resolution...I'd get a 8800GTS 512mb since they can be had for much cheaper now.

If you want to SLI 2x 9800GTX's, you're better off doing so on a 22" and higher.

Otherwise, it would be over kill on a 19". The max most 19's support is 1280x1024. However, I've seen one 19" on newegg that supported higher then that.

Like what was said before, you could go 2x 9600GT's. That'd be a great combo, it's what I'm running right now, couldn't be happier with it.

SLI'ing high end cards is a compleltey different story from SLI'ing mid-range cards, like the 9600's.

Well there are 19" screens now with 1680x1050...so basically sli is a no-go for 1440x900 and under...but 1680x1050 and higher is good.

imo sli on a 22" is even a waste. unless your all about benchmarks i guess. At 1680x1050 i havent found a game besides crysis that i cant max out with some AA on as well. And a 9800gtx should perform the same. at 1900x1200 you'll start noticing it.

it will nearly always see a performance boost. but the point im makign is at 1680x1050 you dont need a performance boost. why would something need to run faster than perfect. anything above and beyond that is spending money so you can have a 3dmark score.
if you're going to sli at least buy a 24" screen.
