internet connection does not work

this PC is at home with my gf and I am at work now and trying to help her.
Skype, MSN report that connection is offline

Web browsers say it took too long to open a website
According to control panel --> network connection
the connection (internet over digital TV) works fine (received 800kb and sent about 2mb) We have digital phone line over TV connection as well and this works fine.

I asked my gf to go into router and she looked up gateway ip, I pinged it from here and it worked fine.

What can it be? What is wrong?

It could just be something as simple as the router and modem needing to be reset. I would try that first. Unplug the router for at least 30 seconds and the modem. Then plug the router in then the modem.

Could be that her NIC drivers are corrupt or not correctly installed. Does the PC get a valid IP address? Or does ipconfig return a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx number? Or worse, 0.0.0.0
Also could be a firewall problem.

If the drivers are corrupt then you can just go to device manager and uninstall the driver and have it research devices. It will reinstall from a driver cache.
