Going back to xp

i own the Dell xps720 and im on Vista Ultimate, My old machine was the Dell Dimensions 5000, on which I had XP sp2..

question is... If i format my current machine can I use the same disk from my old machine to load windows?

No. It would be illegal and against the EULA and Terms of Service. You will need to purchase a new serial for XP.
