Please Help!!!

Hey! I am really having problems getting my Linksys wireless router to install, its a WRT54G v8, it keeps telling me that I'm not hooked up to the internet, and the idiots at Linksys live chat have had me doing everything and nothing works. I'm a computer/internet virgin, only been online for a little over a week.
Can anyone help me? Thanks.

First off is your computer connected through wired or wireless to the router?

Its a wireless router that while I'm trying to get installed and everything gets hooked up with an ethernet cable.

If you plug in the cable from your modem directly to a computer, can you get on the internet that way?

Have you unplugged the router, modem and turned off the PC and then in this order plugged back in the router, then the Modem and then turned on the PC?

This will allow for the modem and router to recognize each other. Which will allow for you to use the web interface to setup and get it working.
