Maxtor Hard Drive wont work with the Bios!!! Need help here!

Hello, i normally chill on the gaming forums, cept this time i have a hard drive issue.

I recently bought this setup, its a whole new computer:

Graphics Card- Radeon ATI x800 Pro
CD Drive- Memorex 16x Dvd 48x CD rom
CD Drive- Memorex 52x CD rom
Sound Blaster Live
Creative SBS Live 5.1
Motherboard- Asus K8V SE Deluxe
Cooling system- Silent Boost/ Case Fan Tornado
Ram- Corsair 1024 3200 Kit
Processor- AMD Athlon 64 3200
Case- X Super Alien
Harddrive- Maxtor 200 GB SATA

When i got all the parts, my dad built it all up.

Now, when i go to turn it on, it shows up with the blue screen with Bios stuff.

For some reason or another, the Maxtor isnt listed.

Anyone know why?

Go into the BIOS and have it search for the HardDrive through harddrive detection. If you have to do it evert time you boot then it means the hard drives is bad.

Your dad has the parallel connector backwards. Switch it around and then the BIOS will detect it.

the parallel connector is that wide/flat cord that connects the HDD to the motherboard. You have to have it in a certain position, or else it will not detect anything.

here is my shot at this... This is a SATA drive that the BIOS will not see. Due to the drive being SATA, you won't see it in the bios and only will see it from the SATA bios, simular to a SCSI bios. If you are trying to load an OS, you will have to use 3rd party drivers for the OS to see the drive.
I'll look a bit more to make sure I'm close on this one...
