HDMI help

Hey i have a dell inspiron 1501. it only has a vga port and i really want hdmi because my tv has it. would it be ok to get a male vga to dvi female addaptor and then a dvi male - hdmi cable and hook it up to my tv??

Hello,

It won't work because VGA is analogue and HDMI is digital.

oh thats cr*p thanks a million just saved me like €50 so there is no way of getting hdmi 4 my lap top ?

Does your TV have VGA inputs? A lot of newer plasma and LCD TV's do, so you could just plug a VGA cord into your TV. If not, then use s-video, or better yet, component (if supported, component is HD).

hi thanks but nope,
bought my new 40 inch hdtv after christmas in the sales and when i was lookin to hook it up no vga ( i know rookie mistake) it does have s-vid but my laptop doesn't!!! any other suggetstions?

You can probably get a VGA-to-DVI conversion box, but those are probably going to be fairly expensive. It's a box that takes in VGA signals, converts them to digital DVI signals, and outputs them. I'm pretty sure DVI and HDMI are interchangeable, but VGA and DVI are only half way interchangeable (DVI port to VGA monitor works).
