Hey guys,

Would really appreciate your opinion on this matter!

My computers being repaired and i have the option to upgrade from my current Ge-force 8600 GTS 512mb to the Ge-force 8800 512mb GTS. The main reason to increase fps on games such as crysis and cod 4. the price difference is £85.

My current system specs:

3.0 dual core Amd x64
Vista home 32bit
320 Hd
Ge-force 8600 GTS 512mb
2Gb ddr ram
20" 1600x1200 reso screen

Or another new grpahics card from the 9 series? what do you guys suggest?

Many thanks, Doug9x

I previously had the EVGA 8600GTS and then I went to the 8800GT and that was a world of difference right there. Visuals and fps went up quite a bit. Im guessing with the 8800gts it will be a good jump up.

for 85 thats a heck of a deal (yes i am aware its euro) so i would go for it if you can spend the money on it, and at the moment you're unhappy with what you can play crysis and cod4 in terms of res and looks.

also the gx2 isn't really a smart buy for a 20" monitor. and the 9800gtx is basically just a beefed up gts512, so unless you plan on upgrading your monitor in the near future, the gts512 would be perfect for you.

Sorry can you explain the monitor issue please? not following.

thanks for the advise guys,

So i will probably go for the 512mb 8800 GTS :D

Basically the 9800GX2 is 2 9800GTX's SLI in a single card solution. The 9800GTX is acually only marginally faster than the 8800GTS. The thing is that SLI scales good on big resolutions like 24" 1920 by 1200 and higher but on smaller resolutions that the 8800GTS can handle, the difference is not worth for a card that is twice its price.

If you can get a 9800GTX for not much more go for it, otherwise the 8800GTS is the way to go.
