so i got this year 2000 thinkpad laptop. will upgrading be a similar process as desktops? this is an ibm so will it have proprietary ibm parts that i need to buy? like the hard drive and memory or so long as it has the same specs, (like144 pin so-dimm pc100 memory or 2.5" 9.5mm hdd) it should be fine?
thanks

yes, but i believe u can use 144pin pc133 so-dimm. i of cource am not positive cause i know nothing of that laptop, but u can prolly look up its specifications on IBM's website, just to be shure the bus supports 133.

They are proprietary in a sense that laptops require laptop parts :) you can however slap any brand hard drive into the hard drive slot and it will work..and any brand in the RAM slot and it will work....the most propritary parts I can think of are the internal CD Drives, batteries, and docking stations...other than that its all pretty versitile...PC Cards, USB devices, External Deivces etc etc...
