Check if you need a new power supply?

Is there software that does a status check on the power supply to see how much power one is really using. The reason I ask is because i believe I have a 500 watt power supply in my desktop but I'd like to know when I should go get something a bit more powerful... and if the amount of watts currently being used is almost at 500 then i would go out and buy another one... does anybody know of any piece of software... preferrably freeware. ^_^

Just open the computer up. Power supplies have all the specs listed on the side of them. I dont think you can see your actual power draw without using a kill-o-watt or similar device that plugs in between the wall and your computer.
