CPU's question

problem with that is you can't SLI on an X38 chipset. You'll need an nVidia 680/780i for SLI.

Not all games can take advantage of SLI, in some cases the single GPU would probably beat it. Not all cases. IMO SLI is only good for 24-30" monitors with games that can even use SLI, and 3dmark06 addicts.

I vote 1st choise. grab 2GB of crucial and xp, or 4gb and vista. a corsair 520hx or similar psu from the PSU thread sticky. a tuniq tower or true for aftermarket cooling and youre set

that 100$+ savings could buy your psu. and the gtx would do anything you want it to.

I got the AoC collecters box on preorder XD man its gonna rock. wonder how many TFers will be playing ^^

maybe we should start a clan? lol

Yeah that's was my first impression and I really just started looking into this SLI stuff just for fun:

1- I'm way over my head with these price ranges anyway...
My price limit for a new MoBo and GFX card will have to be somewhere around $300 so most likely I wont be able to afford a decent SLi set up anyway.

2- As I said I'm just starting to look into this and was just contemplating some set up just to see (read dreaming) but most likely I'll end up with a good MoBo and a 8800GTS, unless after 4/20 I see some MAJOR price drops with the 9800gtx.

3- All that plus 4gb RAM (vista home premiun 64bit) and a CPU q6600 will put my rig at a level WAY BEYOND the recommended req to play AoC, wich is all I really care at this moment for my desktop (I use a lap top for my work and other various tasks anyway).

IMO SLI is only good for 24-30" monitors with games that can even use SLI, and 3dmark06 addicts.

Which will happen of course but I don't really care and I'm definitly not a 3dmark06 addict, far from it.

As long as I can run AoC at med-high settings with a decent long distance drawings and no machine lag I'll be more than happy.

The PSU, cooling and case will be my next step lol but thanks for pointing me in the right direction, apreciated ;)

IC, i don't see any huge price drops on the 9800gtx any time soon. but grab the ds3r and a GTS 512 and you'll be laughin. the GT is good as well, only 1 notch under the gts and a great price.

and ya keep an eye on the AoC thread veedub started in pc games section XD

if your looking for a nice gfx card for cheap im selling my evga 8800gt superclocked 512mb :

http://www.techist.com/forums/f40/fs-evga-8800gt-superclocked-165-a-172321/

Yep saw your post on the trade forum and it's a nice offer, however I'm looking into this one:
EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit
Newegg.com - EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics

Which after MIR is $115 !!

And I'm not sure the difference is worth the extra $50

Comments?

I'd say the difference is immesurable. the 320/640 cards would make good paperweights in comparrison to the 512 gt/gts. XD

just for an idea as to how they compare with each other. especally if you want a decent draw distance with aoc. the 320 would be a stab in the foot, imho. i didnt even know there were still any of those left :S

ya you really dont want that card. and trust me i had the 640mb one and the difference is worth 50 dollars
